The Real World Learning Model was a collaborative effort between Champions for Learning, Golden Gate High School (GGHS), Collier County Public Schools and many community partners and volunteers. This initiative provided students and their families with the information and resources needed to graduate from high school, attend college and make a successful transition to the workforce. We also taught high school students and families financial literacy, so they understand how to pay for their college education and make sound financial choices.
A Site Coordinator was at GGHS to support students in completing college/scholarship applications and test prep through an after-school lab, workshops, and with the help of a trained volunteer network.
Last year, the program improved GGHS’s FASFA completion rate by 7.1%, which outperformed 98% of comparable schools. As of 6/6/14, 39.8% of seniors had completed the FAFSA, which is on pace to reach last year’s 41.58% rate.
