Building Capacity

We elevate the impact of individual member education foundations through advocacy and providing a collegial community for ongoing learning, shared resources, support and networking.

The Consortium regularly convenes its member foundations for professional development and actively promotes the sharing of leading practices in quarterly in-person forums, shared interest groups and a robust virtual community and online resource center.

The Consortium provides one-on-one support to members through professional board session facilitation, strategic planning, program development and technical assistance through relevant issue briefs and policy templates.

Drawing on 30 years of Best Practices

Drawing on 30 years of best practices, Consortium members have developed performance standards for members as a voluntary self-assessment and peer review process.

Specific practices in six key areas were identified –- all with a goal of providing a strong foundation that is sustainable beyond leadership and program changes:

  • Mission and Strategy
  • Program Quality
  • Board and Leadership
  • Fundraising and Sustainability
  • Partnerships, Public Awareness and Engagement
  • Effective Business and Organizational Operations

Great care was taken to make the standards achievable by small, volunteer-driven organizations yet provide room for development for more established, larger members. In going through the review process, Consortium members submit evidence for meeting each standard and receive guidance for growth areas.

Connecting Global to Local

We actively seek opportunities for our members to connect directly with state and national policymakers and partners to increase their knowledge, exchange ideas and inform their efforts on the local level:

  • The Florida Department of Education
  • Florida College Access Network
  • Florida Philanthropic Network
  • Florida Chamber Foundation
  • National Schools Foundation Association
  • Campaign for Grade-level Reading
  • Florida Nonprofit Alliance
