More Than Supplies: A Community Behind Every Classroom

A teacher resource store may look like shelves of school supplies. To educators, it feels like a community saying, “We’ve got you.”

When Santa Rosa Education Foundation reopened its Little Red School House Teacher Supply Depot in October, teachers were asked what they would want donors to know. Their answers pointed to more than pencils, paper and classroom basics. “Your generosity is a huge contribution to our efforts in trying to help our students succeed. If there was a stronger word for gratitude and appreciation, then I would use it because your gift and help is more appreciated that you know. Thank you,” one teacher shared.

Another said, “It makes a huge difference in a child’s school experience just to have the necessities and feel prepared in a world where they are often starting out in a place of disadvantage. This program is an amazing opportunity for us as a community to help give children a more positive school experience. When a child loves coming to school, they learn more and are able to be more successful in life. Thank you so much for helping us in this mission!!”

Serving more than 31,000 students, Santa Rosa County’s education foundation has already distributed more than $20,000 in free supplies to local educators. For teachers, that means stocked classrooms, fewer out-of-pocket expenses and a reminder that their community sees their work.

Santa Rosa is one example of what teacher resource stores make possible across Florida. This summer, local education foundations will be working hard to stock shelves through supply drives, Stuff the Bus events and fundraisers. Every donated item helps a teacher start strong.

Teacher supply stores are listed alphabetically by county below. Find your county and help stock the shelves for local students. If you do not see your local education foundation listed, visit Connect Local | Consortium of Florida Education Foundations to find your local education foundation and learn how you can support their back-to-school efforts.
