For Sofia Gonzales, the path to Duke University once seemed impossible. Even with top grades and National Merit recognition, the cost of tuition loomed large—until one scholarship changed everything.
Across the nation, more than 80% of families say college feels financially out of reach. Scholarships that recognize both merit and need are essential to helping bright students pursue their goals without the burden of overwhelming debt.
The Rhoda H. Molk Memorial Fund Scholarship, administered through the Consortium of Florida Education Foundations, makes that dream possible. Open to Florida public school seniors who have earned National Merit recognition and demonstrate financial need, the award provides up to $40,000 toward a bachelor’s degree. Through the Consortium’s statewide network, funders can create similar opportunities that reach deserving students in every corner of Florida—turning generosity into long-term impact.
“Before this scholarship, I expected to accumulate a grand amount of debt if I were to continue at my dream school,” Sofia said. “However, that is no longer the case. Now, I get to study neurobiology at Duke University—something I never imagined possible. I am forever appreciative of this award.”
Sofia’s story reflects the power of philanthropy made possible through the Consortium—connecting donors who want to invest in Florida’s students with life-changing opportunities that remove barriers and make college dreams a reality statewide.
