“When will I ever use this?” is the age-old question from students struggling to grasp challenging math and science concepts in the classroom.

“Why aren’t we getting more qualified applicants for our science and technology jobs?” is a too-common refrain from Florida workforce leaders who often struggle to fill positions that require strong foundational skills in STEM – science, technology, engineering and math.

For ten years, AT&T Florida has partnered with the Consortium to connect classrooms to careers to address both these challenges through their STEM@Work initiative.

Impact by the Numbers

One annual grant is leveraged by the Consortium for impressive impact:

  • 520 projects
  • 97,702 students directly impacted throughout state
  • 1,138 local workplace partners engaged
  • $1,430,450 total investment (with local match)

Connecting Classrooms to STEM Jobs

From engineering human-powered submarines to creating sustainable aquaponics farming systems, each project varies depending on the goals and workplace partners involved. AT&T funds are used to provide supplies, equipment and transportation to eliminate barriers to learning beyond the classroom and make a teacher’s vision a reality.

“This program has shown me all the STEM job opportunities available that I didn’t even know about.”
