EmPOWERing stem educators
We know teachers value professional development that is relevant, interactive, job-embedded and gives them access to their colleagues as experts. We also know how critical high-quality, engaging, standards-based instruction is for students to build strong foundations in math and science.
Florida Power & Light Company invests in EmPOWERing STEM Educators in their 27-county service territory through a partnership with the Consortium. Local education foundations apply for funding to bring teachers together for peer-to-peer learning of leading practices in STEM instruction in their district each school year.
Chosen projects vary in focus and scope depending on the district’s priorities. Some pair new teachers with more experienced ones, some are cross-disciplinary, and others focus on more specific subject matter or grade levels. Common elements are observation, reflection and time for collaboration.
When teachers are supported and encouraged to grow, students achieve. Thanks to FPL for EmPOWERing STEM Educators!
“It is core in becoming and growing into a master teacher. Only by watching others and then reflecting on how you can incorporate these ideas into your classroom do you grow as an educator.”
