We are thrilled to announce that Okaloosa Public Schools Foundation has been selected as the recipient of the Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation‘s Career Catalyst Grant! This competitive $100,000 award will support their innovative “Growing Laurel Hill” agricultural program.
In a pool of 13 exceptional applicants, Okaloosa’s vision stood out for its comprehensive approach to creating opportunities in rural communities. The program will serve 150 students in an area where 69% qualify for Free and Reduced Lunch, providing them with valuable skills in horticulture, Agri-Technology, and hands-on experience through greenhouses, aquaponics systems, and internships.
What makes this project truly remarkable is the community support it has garnered. With $50,000 pledged by the Farm Bureau, $100,000 pending from Yellow River Soil and Water Conservation, plus additional backing from local businesses and the USDA, this program exemplifies successful public-private partnership.
The Frederick A. DeLuca Foundation remains committed to building career pathways in Florida’s high-demand fields. We look forward to seeing the “Growing Laurel Hill” program launch in 2025-2026 and the bright futures it will cultivate!
