The Consortium of Florida Education Foundations is proud to present the inaugural Susan Copeland Unbridled Spirit Award to Meghan Magamoll, Executive Director of the Public Education Foundation of Marion County. The award was presented during the Consortium’s annual Leadership Retreat, held this year at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala—an especially fitting location in honor of Susan Copeland’s love of horses.
This award was established in 2025 to honor the extraordinary legacy of Susan Copeland, the longtime Executive Director of the Polk Education Foundation, who passed away following a courageous battle with cancer. Susan was a beloved figure not only in Polk County but across Florida’s education foundation network.
The “Unbridled Spirit Award” is a heartfelt nod to Susan’s deep love of horses and her ability to lead with grace, joy, and determination—even in the face of profound personal and professional challenges. Her presence inspired those around her, not because she avoided hardship, but because she faced it with resilience and an open heart. The award bearing her name is intended to carry that legacy forward—recognizing local education foundation leaders who demonstrate courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to others, no matter the circumstances.
Meghan Magamoll was selected for her consistent leadership, her ability to uplift others during difficult times, and her joyful commitment to the mission of public education. Since joining the Consortium, Meghan has embraced its collaborative culture, stepping into leadership roles—most recently as Finance Chair—and contributing generously to the statewide learning community.
Over the past two years, she has guided her team through significant loss with grace, compassion, and creativity—helping them honor a beloved colleague’s memory while continuing to serve students with heart. She remains a calm and steady presence amid the complexities and changes that come with leading in a dynamic educational landscape.
“Meghan embodies what it means to lead with unbridled spirit,” said Consortium President Mary Chance. “Her courage, warmth, and unshakable optimism reflect the legacy we honor in Susan Copeland. Presenting this award to her here in Ocala—horse country—is a full-circle moment.”
